How do I get into the sauna? How does it work with firing up? We have compiled the most frequently asked questions and answers here.

Questions about booking

Saunaare - that's five friends who like to sauna in saunas right by the water. To share our passion with like-minded people, we have built several mobile saunas. These are located in beautiful, selected locations and can be booked online by the hour. They are exclusively available to you for the duration of the booking - take as many friends with you as you like. The saunas are heated by fire or electricity.

A reservation is made as follows:

  • You book the sauna of your choice for one, two or three hours at the time of your choice. The sauna is then reserved exclusively for you. Payment is made online
  • On the day of your booking you will receive an e-mail with all the information about the sauna session (access etc.)
  • If no one is in the sauna before you, you can (and should) arrive 50 to 60 minutes early to heat up the sauna - depending on the ambient temperature and your ability to light a fire
  • After your sauna session, clean the sauna and lock it up again

Sauna rental is fixed at CHF 40.00 per hour. It doesn't matter how many persons use the sauna, the price remains the same.

You can pay online with the following payment methods:

For cancellations up to 24 hours before the booked appointment, please contact us as soon as possible via our contact form or by email. Let us know the date and time of your sauna booking. The easiest way to do this is to reply to the confirmation email for the appointment.

For cancellations made less than 24 hours before the booked appointment, please contact us immediately by phone using the number listed in the confirmation email. Please note that such cancellations involve additional work for us, as the sauna may also be booked again after your appointment and these guests will then have to arrive earlier to heat up the sauna.

We will then cancel the booking and issue you with a voucher so that you can make up for the sauna session at a later date. For very short-term cancellations, we reserve the right not to issue a voucher, as such cancellations, as described above, can involve considerable effort. We understand that emergencies can arise – just talk to us!

For appointment changes up to 24 hours before the booked appointment, please contact us as soon as possible via our contact form or by email. Let us know the date and time you booked which sauna and when you would like to reschedule your sauna session. You can also reschedule your appointment at a different sauna than the one you originally booked. Please check the sauna calendar in advance to see if the desired replacement date is still available.

For changes made less than 24 hours before the booked appointment, please contact us immediately by phone using the number listed in the confirmation email. Please note that such changes involve additional work for us, as the sauna may also be booked again after your appointment and these guests will then have to arrive earlier to heat up the sauna.

Please make sure that you enter the code for the voucher or gift card in the correct place. After you have made the booking and selected "Proceed to checkout", you can enter the voucher or gift card code as follows:

  1. If you have a voucher (eight-digit number and letter code in the format "XXXXXXXX"), please select "Add voucher", enter the code and select "Apply"
  2. If you have a gift card (16-digit number and letter code in the format "XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX"), please select "Do you have a gift card", enter the code and select "Apply"

It may happen that the payment process cannot be completed due to technical problems. The appointment can then no longer be selected during your current visit to the website. In this case, please do the following:

  • Close the browser in which you made the booking
  • Start a new browser session, if possible in private mode
  • Book the appointment again

If you have the option, try the reservation on another device.

If the booking still does not work, please contact us via contact form or e-mail.

Before the sauna session

After booking, you will receive a confirmation email with all the information you need to access the sauna. If you have not received this e-mail, please contact us immediately using the contact form. On the day of booking, a reminder e-mail with the information will also be sent in the morning.

Yes, our saunas are unattended, there will be no one on site to heat up the sauna. However, if the sauna is already booked immediately before your appointment, it will of course already be preheated.

Yes, if the sauna is not occupied before your appointment (can be checked at any time in the calendar of the booked sauna), you can come earlier to heat up without any problems. In all our saunas - whether with a wood-burning stove or electric heater - it takes at least 45 minutes for the sauna to reach operating temperature. The duration depends on how cold it is and how long the sauna was previously unheated. If in doubt, allow an hour to heat up, especially if you are booking the sauna for the first time.

If the sauna is occupied before your appointment, it is yours from the full hour. Please make sure that you are out again on the hour.

No. All material for firing is on site.

Of course, it depends on how close you like to sit together. Our experience is:

  • Bern Camping Eichholz: 6 to 8 people
  • Bern Wylergut boathouse: 6 to 8 people
  • Bern Altenbergsteg: 6 to 8 people
  • Bern Schwellenmätteli: 6 to 8 people
  • Bern Weyermannshaus outdoor pool: 6 to 8 people
  • Lake Thun: 4 to 6 people
  • Burgdorf: 4 to 6 persons
  • Lake Biel: 4 to 6 people
  • Bathing: 4 to 6 persons

Purists only need two towels - one to sit on in the sauna and one to dry off after cooling down. The following items can make your sauna session even more pleasant:

  • Drinking water - during the sauna session you should compensate for fluid loss
  • Swimsuit - for cooling off in the water
  • Bathrobe and slippers - for relaxation between sauna sessions
  • Flashlight - in case it is a little dark around the sauna

During the sauna session

Yes, all our saunas have a changing room.

There is no shower in the sauna. To cool off, we recommend a dip in the nearby water. Cooling off in the lake or river is at your own risk.

Our saunas should be as self-sufficient as possible. For this reason, and so as not to limit the choice of locations, we do not offer toilets ourselves. Some locations have toilets in the surrounding area that you can use. Please check the page of the sauna in question.

There is infusion oil in our saunas and of course you can also bring your own oil for the perfect Löyly feeling.

There are many methods, one of which is described here.

IMPORTANT: for a good draught, the ash drawer must be empty. In addition, it sometimes helps to keep the drawer slightly open so that more air can enter the stove from below.

Hint: in most of our saunas there are two types of wood, one of which is fir wood. These logs are somewhat lighter and less compact. They are very suitable for firing up because they burn faster. Once the fire is burning and there are enough embers, we recommend continuing with the other type of wood (heavier and more compact logs).

Place two logs lengthwise in the stove and place a kindling wool on top. If possible, please use only one kindling wool, this is sufficient and helps to avoid having to constantly refill.

Then place two logs across it so that the kindling wool is between them:

Now light the wool:

As soon as the wool is burning, place three to four logs lengthwise on top again:

If there is enough space, you can now add another layer on top.

Now close the oven door and wait until the fire is burning. Add wood as required.

In our saunas in Solothurn and in Bern at Schönausteg there is a wide wooden lounger directly in front of the sauna. In Bern at the Eichholz campsite and on Lake Biel in Sutz there are benches in front of the sauna.

After the sauna

  • Wet mop + wipe
  • Open windows and glass door
  • Fill up wood

Don't forget to turn out the light and goodbye!

No. Even if you have booked the last appointment of the day, the fire does not have to be extinguished. Just make sure that the stove door is properly closed and the ash drawer is all the way in.

If possible, the ash drawer should be checked before using the sauna and emptied if it is full.

Absolutely, even if your sauna session is the last one of the day. This allows fresh air into the sauna room, which is very important.

All our saunas are located next to the water. Simply use water from the river or lake for cleaning.
